M.A.C Aren't Cruelty Free Any More?

Estee Lauder has revised they're animal testing pledge and decided they will test on animals when required by law ... Even though in Canada, animal testing is only required in medicine.

Brands like Bobbie Brown, Clinique and my beloved M.A.C have ~apparently~ chose to follow suit. Though the internet is rife with plenty of misinformation and I have no idea where this started from.

I've checked the US M.A.C site and couldn't find anything about it, the UK site is still stating that Estee Lauder don't test.

I'm not gonna lie, I do feel a bit heartbroken by this speculation. Especially since M.A.C has 5 social initiative programmes currently which they strive for:

M.A.C Cruelty Free Beauty.
Back 2 M.A.C Recycling.
M.A.C Kids Helping Kids.
The M.A.C AIDS Fund.
M.A.C Viva Glam.

- From their Wiki page.

The cruelty free principle prohibits animal testing and the policy is extended to their ingredient suppliers.

I really don't understand why they would go back on that and until they release an official statement I refuse to believe it.

I know most people don't care for animal testing but I do and thought the small number who do would want to know.

What do you think of this?

M.A.C restored my love for makeup, I'd bought drugstore as a teen and it was horrible quality. Although it's improved now, I still prefer my higher end products, especially my M.A.C lippies. :(
