September 10th marks the World Suicide Prevention Day.
I actually didn't know this till I saw posts about it earlier today. I won't lie, it's something I've thought about on many occasions and still to this day. So it's something that relates closely to me.
Did you know ...
- Every 57 seconds someone contacts the Samaritans with suicidal feelings.
- In the last 45 years, suicide rates have risen by 60% worldwide.
- Suicide rates among young people have been increasing to such an extent that they are now the group at highest risk in a third of all countries._________________________________________________________________
A quote I've seen constantly floating around the internet is of a suicide note that was left:
I'm going to walk to the bridge. If one person smiles at me on the way, I will not jump.
Needless to say, no one smiled.
Reach out to someone, even if it's just something little that gets them though the day. Not just today but everyday.
Just having someone to talk to that will take their mind of it can make the world of difference.
