DHC Olive Body Butter.

With winter well and truly upon us it's time to dig out those products that keep dry skin at bay during the colder weather.

DHC are a brand I've only ever tried through Glossybox but when I heard about their new body butter I knew it was just perfect for me. Kicking off the new year and launching January 1st is DHC's new Olive Body Butter*.

What www.dhcuk.co.uk says:
Cult Japanese beauty brand DHC has introduced Olive Body Butter, a luxurious, high performance moisturiser packed with softening botanicals including shea butter, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, squalane and argan oil.

The non-greasy formula absorbs quickly into the skin for immediate results. Smooth over the body daily after showering or whenever skin feels dry, paying particular attention to dry patches. For truly great results, slough away dead skin cells beforehand using DHC’s Olive Corn Body Scrub & Polish to double the skin softening effect

In my experience light, thin lotions really don't cut it for me. Especially on those extra dry areas like my hands and elbows. Generally more thicker creams come with the downside of leaving a greasy feeling on the skin long after application. If you find yourself feeling the same this new addition from DHC might just solve your dry skin problems.

Housed in a simple plastic pot this thick, almost solid body butter comes with a light floral fragrance that isn't too offensive or overpowering.

Upon first application of this I knew I was onto a winner. It's a heavy duty moisturiser and a little bit goes a long way. It spreads easily over the skin and sinks in straight away. Despite the numerous oils it contains it doesn't leave any residue behind, so you aren't left with that greasy, sticky feeling which usually comes from thick creams. That makes it perfect for me as I cannot stand having anything 'sitting' on the skin.

It quickly worked my way into my daily routine and now it sits on my bedside table for whenever I feel like my skin needs a hydration top up. Perfect!

I'm Friends With The Monster That's Under My Bed.

It's been a little while since I did an Instagram update, what with my lack of decent phone from September through until just before Christmas. So I thought it was about time I did one, even if it's just a short post for the time being.

Finally moved over to the darkside and got a 5S // Catching Fire was far too good // Christmas scents.
Fluffies to keep me warm through the winter // spending a little Christmas money // sparkly blush.
A simple party look // a sweet treat // CHRISTMAS!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I'm actually having my Christmas dinner today, if you're reading this on the day this goes up. My Nan is cooking dinner for 16, what a champ but I really don't envy her.

New year is shortly approaching, my birthday too. I'm so looking forward to a little bit of time to myself, a little retail therapy in London and lots and lots of blog posts! I really do hope next year is going to be a good one.

New In: 4st Treats.

It took me a little while to hit the 4 stone mark. I seemed to be hovering around it for ages but I could just never get that little bit extra to tip me over it. I did however, eventually get there.

I've been wanting to get start a little collection of Yankee Candle jars for such a long time time. The only thing that was putting me off was the price. Whilst they are expensive to begin with, they are worth the price. The large jars last such a long time, 100 hours+ burn time. Plus unlike a lot of scented candles, they do actually scent the room. You only have to take the lid off the jar and it strongly scents the room without even lighting it.

From the Halloween collection I picked up the cat tealight holder. I like how it's different from other holders and it's a kitty cat so that was a given that I wanted it.

Beauticology Candy Cane Body Butter Trio.

Just a quick little Christmas post for you today. I was minding my own business doing the weekly food shop (yawn!), when I saw this cute little trio with a third off it went straight in the trolley.

Beauticology is a brand from Baylis & Harding but has a more younger feel to it. Whilst they have a select few products available all year round they've bought out some special additions for the holiday season.

Strawberry Swirl smells a lot sweeter and far less artificial than the standard strawberry scent. Almost like strawberry milkshake.

Pink Peppermint has a minty scent that isn't at all overpowering and has an edge of sweetness to it. Really refreshing and not a scent you find it lotions often.

Cherry Candy Cane is my absolute favourite. I'm not entirely sure where the cherry comes into it but to me, it smells just like Battenberg. Sweet and cakey, with more of an almond scent. I love it so much.

I really don't like body butters, especially those from The Body Shop. These are more like potted body lotions. They're thin, light and are easily absorbed into the skin but still leave it feeling hydrated.

The perfect little present for yourself or someone else.

Glossybox - December.

It's been a little while since I've reviewed a Glossybox. But the 'festive treasures' box* is such a good one, I wanted to get it up whilst there's still a chance of ordering one.

Wilkinson Sword Intuition - Naturals Razor
I was quite surprised to find this in the box though I'm not sure why. I'm not complaining, I favour Wilkinson razors over anything else. I'm also a big fan of anything that is multi tasking, such as the Wilkinson Hydro Silk.
It lathers, moisturises and shaves. Perfect for saving time and having to use numerous products.
I found this took a few tries to get used to how best to use it but it's easy once you know how.

Seche - Nail Lacquer - Pretty Little Heartbreaker
£9.95 / 14ml
Seche Vite is without a doubt my holy grail top coat. I was pretty excited when they decided to launch their own colour line They've appeared in Glossybox before but the colour I'd received in the past wasn't something I'd of worn.
Pretty Little Heartbreaker is more my thing. A pink with a strong cool tone to it. I'm looking forward to trying this out properly.

Maybelline New York - Color Tattoo 24hr Eye Shadow - On & On Bronze
£4.99 / 3.9g
The Color Tattoo shadows are not something I've thought to buy myself, though I believe they are akin to M.A.C Paint Pots. They can be worn alone or with a primer and have good longevity and don't crease.
This looks like it'd be a perfect base for my Urban Decay Naked 1 palette.

Beautiful Movements Cosmetics - Nude Lip Gloss
£12 / 8ml
In all honesty I don't wear lipgloss much anymore. I don't like the feel of it on my lips.
This looks as though it's a universally flattering shade that would suit most people but I shall be passing it on to someone who will make much better use of it.

Sanctuary Spa - Active Reverse Resurface & Refine Ultra Polish
£12 / 200ml
This smells so good! It's full of lots of citrus scented oils which gives it a really refreshing scent. Reminds me of Lemony Flutter from Lush.
It's a very fine exfoliator so perfect for those who don't like using the more harsh kind.

I really liked this months box. The packaging, the contents. There was a good balance between everything and I will be using everything bar the gloss. But I have many girls in my family who never say no to a donation of something that doesn't work for me, so my loss is their gain!

This was a standout box from the previous couple of months, long may it continue into next year.

£10 (plus p&p) per month

Quick Fix Facials Anti Blemish Mud Mask.

Something I love doing but haven't done nearly enough (if even at all this year) is regularly use face masks. They're great for using weekly to give your skin a treat and help target any problem areas.

What www.boots.com says:
Problem skin? Need a Quick Fix? Here’s the solution - wonder masks packed with hero ingredients to effortlessly and efficiently banish everyday skin issues.

Quick Fix Facials Anti-Blemish Mud Mask* for oily and spot prone skin.

The problems: Excess oil, congested, blemish prone skin or a general combinational skin type.
The solutions: dead sea mud – helps absorb and control oil production. Salicylic acid – helps draw out impurities and tighten the pores. Tea tree oil – helps to treat spots and prevent future blemishes.

Before using this I prep my skin my removing any makeup, cleansing and drying my face. I then apply a generous amount and leave for 10 minutes, or longer depending on what I'm doing. I remove it with hot water and flannel, then tone and moisturise like normal.

This mask contains really great ingredients for targeting blemishes. It's not too heavily scent, it just has a slightly fresh, clean scent to it. Also, as it's a mud mask so it sets when it dries. Trying to move your face always feels a little funny and makes for much amusement.

I actually really love this. Before using this I was having a fair few breakouts which were down to stress. It's like a vicious circle, the more I stressed the more I got them, which in turn made me stressed about those. After using this I find any blemishes I do have aren't at all painful and eventually went away. It really helped to calm my skin and get rid of any excess oils.

I think these masks are really great value. You get an average of 10 uses out of each tube, which works out a measly 49p per use. They currently have 5 different masks so there's one that's sure to fit your skin type. Definitely one I'll be buying and using regularly.

Lemongrass House Virgin Coconut Bath Milk.

Lemongrass House is a brand I hadn't heard of until recently. The brand originated and is based in Thailand. All the products are handmade there using no animal ingredients and haven't been tested on animals. They don't contain any parabens, sulphates, dyes or perfumes.

They've just opened up their first ever UK store in Trinity Leeds, along with an online shop to purchase all their goodies

What www.lemongrasshouse.co.uk says:
The natural ingredients found in milk add moisture to the skin, improving its appearance. The lactic acid in milk contains natural beta hydroxyl acids which exfoliates and soothes the skin. Milk naturally contains Vitamins A & D which help the skin stay soft yet strong. Milk also eliminates dead skin cells from the surface.

I was super excited when I was sent the Virgin Coconut Bath Milk*. I am a total coconut fiend and this doesn't disappoint. The scent is delicious, natural and not at all overpowering.

I pour a little of this (as it goes a long way) under hot, running water and swish around until the bath water turns milky looking. It's perfect for those with sensitive skin as it contains only natural ingredients but the bath milks don't produce any kind of bubbles, so won't irritate.

The oils in this really help to moisturise the skin. I found when shaving I didn't need any other products, usually I use a gel on my legs. Using this in the bath meant it eliminated my need for any extra products as the razor just glides easily over the skin. Usually if I skip moisturising after bathing my skin feels really dry but when using this it doesn't at all.

On first look I did think this was a little overpriced but the fact that it's handmade, natural ingredients and you only need a small amount, I feel like that justifies the price point and it's something I would definetly buy.

Burt's Bees Beeswax & Banana Hand Cream.

Hand creams are one of those things that I like to have on rotation. I've said it many times before on here but I'll find something that works, then after a while it just won't be as effective. So I find using a few different ones tends to keep this from happening.

Burt's Bees is a brand I've only ever tried through Glossybox but what I've had from them, I've really liked.

When I recently came across a Boots that stocks the range and it was on 3 for 2, I decided it was about time I tried some bits. I just had a hard time deciding what to choose as everything smells so yummy. This however, was something I've wanted to purchase for ages.

What www.burtsbees.co.uk says:
Soft hands are always appealing. So give them an enticing touch with Burt's Bees' Beeswax & Banana Hand Creme. This super rich, all-natural hand cream is made with aloe vera and vitamin E to moisturise dry skin and beeswax to help seal and shield your hands from the elements. The sweet smell of banana reminds you to feed your skin with nourishing care.

This is definitely one of those to keep on your bedside. Not only does it come in a hefty glass jar so isn't great for throwing in your handbag. It's a rich, thick, buttery type cream. I don't find it uncomfortably oily like Lemony Flutter from Lush but it takes a little while for it to sink in completely.

The scent is the thing that drew me to it the most. It's not an artificial banana smell at all but it's definitely a nice change from the usual hand cream scents. They also do an almond and milk version of this if banana isn't something you're a fan of.

I love slathering this on after pushing back my cuticles and giving my nails a clean and tidy. It keeps them from being dry and looking untidy. Then I finish up with applying a little more all over my hands and giving it time to sink right in, resulting in wonderful smooth hands. It really is the perfect addition to my night time routine.

New In: 3st Treat.

Quite a while back now, I hit my 3st loss so it was treat time!

I'd eyed this up on Harvey Nicks when it was first released. The colour was what caught my eye. This kind of blue is probably one of my favourites ever. I can't say I've ever come across leather in such a colour before.

I had it bookmarked on my Macbook, perhaps for future purchase. One Friday night I had this overwhelming urge to check it. No idea why but when I did, I realised it had gone into the seasonal sale and was almost half the original price so I swiftly made an order.

It is beautiful! Truly beautiful and it's made me want a MBMJ bag because the quality is amazing.

Even in the sale it was an expensive purchase but it was oh so very worth it.

Taylor By Taylor Swift.

Just recently Taylor Swift won the award for 'best celebrity fragrance of the year' at the Annual Fragrance Foundation Awards. With that she launches a third and more personal fragrance to her line up - Taylor By Taylor Swift*.

What www.boots.com says:
Taylor by Taylor Swift is beautifully crafted from luscious fruits, blushing florals and soft woods. It’s an unforgettable scent that’s classic yet completely alluring. The fragrance begins with a burst of fresh fruits and flowers, blending luscious lychee and sparkling tangerine with a whisper of magnolia petals. Evoking a sense of femininity, the middle is a blushing bouquet of some of Taylor’s favorite flowers – peonies, hydrangeas and vanilla orchids. Anchoring the base is creamy sandalwood, warmed by an inviting mixture of apricot nectar, cashmere musk and a blend of woods.

Playing off Taylor’s classic meets contemporary style, the Taylor by Taylor Swift bottle was designed to embody Taylor’s retro with a modern twist flare. Delicate pearls, inspired by the necklace Taylor wears to dress up any outfit, adorn the neck of the bottle, while the faceted cap is a nod to Taylor’s love of crystal gems, and juxtaposes the bright, bold pattern decorating the top of the bottle. The blue carton is embellished with the vibrant swirls, gilded script and signature icons such as her favourite number - the gold stamped 13, projects Taylor’s bold attitude, and alludes to the distinct and elegant bottle inside.

I'm really not all that great at describing fragrances but this is delicious. It's light, fresh and summery with just a hint of sweetness. The scent makes me think of long summer evenings and floaty dresses. It's definitely a more 'young' fragrance.

In the past I had a tendency to ignore celebrity fragrances but I'm really glad I didn't pass this up. Whilst I'm not overly fond of the design of the bottle, the fragrance more than makes up for it. It really lasts on the skin and it's something I've been reaching for on a daily basis.

The Afterlife Of The Party.

It seems the UK was heat by quite a heatwave towards the end of July. I'm not a massive fan of the heat. For one, I realised a few years ago I'd rather try and prevent sun damage as much as I can. And I just really don't like how uncomfortable it makes me feel. Thank goodness for the air conditioning at work.

I tend to not wear any makeup bar a base when it gets so hot. But I was bored, I had time and I wasn't feeling very good about myself. So the best way to get rid of all of those feelings were of course by playing with pretties.

VIVO Perfect Skin Primer.
Make Up For Ever HD Foundation - 115 Ivory.
Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow - 35 Taupe.
NARS Illuminator - Orgasm.
Ben Nye Face Powder - Fair.

Urban Decay Primer Potion.
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil - Milk (inner corner/brow highlight, lower lashline).
Sugarpill Eyeshadow - Tako (inner corner/brow highlight), Bulletproof (outer V), Afterparty (lower lashline).
Inglot Eyeshadow - 353 (all over lid), 358 (crease).
Chanel Le Volume*.

Sleek Gloss Me - Rose.

I don't know how I made it this long without Sugarpill's Tako. A beautifully clean, matte white that actually has decent pigmentation. I really like bright highlights on the inner corner of the eye. This is perfect for really opening up the eye and making me look fresher and more wide awake. Most of the time it's an illusion!

One Step At A Time.

Hello. Remember me?

Life has been kind of ... Difficult for me lately. I know it's not always going to be rainbows and kittens. But I've had to deal with a lot of changes just recently. I'm not a great lover of change as it is but they've affected me in such a negative way, when I wasn't expecting them to. I pushed them to the back of my mind and tried to ignore them but in retrospect, that just makes things worse.
The 'issues' were keeping me awake at night, just constantly playing on my mind 24/7 and I was just somewhere else. I couldn't concentrate on anything and so the blog had to unintentionally sit on the back burner for a little while.

I'd been thinking for a little while about coming back but I needed to make sure I was ready to, that my heart would be in it. The whole reason I stopped was because I knew I would just be churning out posts for the sake of it, I wouldn't be enjoying it and it wouldn't have my full attention. I've always been told that when something you love is no longer enjoyable you should stop doing it, rather than forcing yourself to carry on as it'll just make you feel even worse about it.

Whilst things haven't quite settled down, I feel like I need something to take my mind off things. To give me something to occupy some of my free time because when I have nothing to do, that's when I really struggle to keep my spirits up.
So whilst I was posting every other day before, I think for now I'm going to limit myself to 3 makeup related posts a week. Those being on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday.

Over the past couple of months I've managed to accumulate a truck load of things to review, both paid for by myself and PR samples. So if you're waiting on a PR review going up, trust me it's coming. All in good time!

Hopefully everything works out like it's supposed to and I'm back to feeling like my better self soon.
